What technologies did you use?

For the creation of my products I used...

• Two video cameras (panasonic and a sony HD quality)
• Two tripods
• voice recorder
• Final Cut Pro
• Windows movie maker
• Fireworks software

How/why did you use them?

• Video cameras - to collect the footage for my music video. I used two cameras so that I could film the actors from different angles and have different cinematography used in my product. I also used the second camera for the behind the scenes of created my product.
• Tripods - so that I could have steady shots for my footage then I could choose to have a purposefully shaky shot or a steady shot.
• Voice recorder - to get the actors quoting from the original film of Alice in Wonderland (1951)
• Final Cut Pro - This was for piecing all my footage together.
• Windows Movie Maker - At home I used this software to put footage from the filming days to create a behind the scenes containing bloopers and my directing skills with both a group of people and on a one-to-one basis.
• Fireworks - This was used to create my digipak and magazine advertisement as it had the perfect effect that I could use to create the Alice in Wonderland theme and still suit the genre of music and the brand recognition of Florence + the Machine.

What problems/difficulties did you have with the technologies?

I was put under pressure a bit with the filming as Biddulph Grange country park had times when less people would be walking around (I know this from personal experience of going there) but my problem was that my main video camera lost charge twice on different days, during big scenes. Once when I was filming Olivia (Alice) falling into the 'rabbit hole' and another when I was shooting the Hatter's (George) tea party. This was frustrating as I'd say the best take of these shots weren't recorded. Luckily I had my second camera to record the footage on those days but it was a problem having to redo a almost perfect scene. In the end the footage was filmed and those shots were just as good.
Another problem I had was after the filming process but the editing stage. My SD cards from each of my video cameras wouldn't upload to the Apple Mac computer at school so I had to use a cable to keep my footage saved onto the computer I was using.

I am planning in the final question to be written on blogger, this is so I can also include videos and pictures of the technologies I have used.

By splitting the question into stages I will then be able to cover all areas of the question and less likely to miss anything out.

2.    How effective is the combination of your media product and ancillary texts?

In this question I should include what the audience notices in my ancillary texts that is also shown in my product. I got one of my classmates to look at both of my ancillary texts and write what they noticed it them knowing what my music video is about as they've seen it before.

Final Digipak

This is my digipak to go along with my music video. Overall I'm happy with the outcome as it is bold and eye-catching but not overly complicated. I have matched Florence and the Machine's band name structure with the white line border around the edge on the digipak cover. I changed the font to match the theme of my product and the album name (Breath of Life). I decided to have the album name the same as the song I used for my music video to create the overall theme to the album and for the tracking list I chose nature/dream-like songs by Florence and the Machine so that it fits with the Alice in Wonderland subject matter.

audience feedback on Initial idea

After showing my first draft of my digipak to my classmates, I found out that although my photos in the dark were interesting and caught their eye, it came across more sinister than calm and dreamy. They liked the editing on the photos and how each one fitted nicely in each panel and where the writing was placed, so after my feedback I will keep some of the photos but change the dark outside ones to day-light outside and edit them to give the dreamy effect.

Inital Ideas (Digipak)

This is my initial idea for my digipak. As it is only a draft for my digipak it was done on Word after I get my audience feedback I will create my final digipak on the software Fireworks as it will make my final product look more aesthetically pleasing.

Album Cover Research

To give me more ideas on what to put on my digipak I have researched Florence and the Machine's album covers and what theme is gives off by just looking at the cover.

They mostly are very nature based, with flowers, leaves and 'floaty' garments to create a certain image.

Rather than using the Singer on the cover, I'll use 'Alice' as she is shown the most throughout my music video and as she is a key character I thought it would be a good idea to show off more close up's of her face.

The colours used are both tinted warm and cold depending on the mood that the artist is trying to create, weather its a sad song or light-hearted song.
I think I'll use blue's and purple tints to create that dream-like feel.

On the Digipak 'Florence and the Machine' is written in joined up writing which would be recognizable to an audience familiar with her work giving her a brand identity.

Introducing Digipak

For my digipak, I firstly have to decide on what template I want to work from. Weather I want a 4 panel or a Maltese cross digipak.

 

I like the look of 4 panels as it is simple but it might not show the theme and genre of my music video as it is too plain. The Maltese is unique so it would fit my theme but I'd then have more pages to fill.
