Shooting script 1 - first ideas

This was my first idea for the shooting script but I didn't think it would work so I decided to change it slightly. For example, the sound effect of a girl laughing would make the audience understand that my theme was a horror instead of fantasy and another reason for changing it was because it wouldn't be appealing to the audiences eye from the beginning.

Lyrical Analysis

This is my lyrical analysis of my final song choice, analysing the song will help me gain knowledge of it reading between the lines and meaning of the song.
Briefly it says that the song is very nature based meaning my music video theme will fit the song perfectly.

    Final Song Choice

I was originally going with Avril Lavigne - Alice (Underground) but due to the name of the song, lyrics and music video itself, it already themes Alice in Wonderland  meaning that my final product could end up looking similar to the original.
Also looking at my feedback most people said Florence and the Machine. Her style and her music is based around nature so my final choice is Florence and the Machine - Breath of Life

    Video Interviews

I didn't have enough answers for my questionnaire I am doing some video interviews to get a better idea for product.

    My thoughts on video interviews

They both have similar music taste and they like my ideas for the Alice in Wonderland theme which I'm happy with. They like the song choices and together they chose Florence and the Machine along with which is why I only posted one of them saying it.

    Florence and the Machine

    Initial Ideas

After thinking about what songs would be interesting to use and gain the most creativity from, I decided four songs would fit, they are...

    • Florence and the Machine - Breath of life
    • Emily Browning - Sweet Dreams
    • Rhianna - Disturbia
    • Avril Lavigne - Alice (Underground)
Each one of these songs is slightly different and all have a strangeness to them which is what I want to show in my music video.
I rather like Breath of Life and Alice the most due to the lyrics relating to nature. For a theme in my music video I was thinking Alice in wonderland due to the madness of it all and as it is set outside mainly in both the 1951 cartoon and Tim Burton's 2010 version.

    History of Genres

Pop Rock stylistic origins are the pop genre and the rock genre, the cultural origins is the 1960's UK and US.
The most commonly used instruments are vocals, electric and bass guitar, piano.

Alternative metal is a mix of rock and heavy metal music. It became a popular music genre in the mid 1980's in the U.S. The mostly used instruments is the guitar, bass, drums and sometimes the use of electronic keyboard and piano.

    Genre Research

    Pop rock
This mixes a catchy pop style and light lyrics in a guitar-based rock song. for an example you could have dancing in it representing the pop style and then have some fast shots or handheld camera shots representing the rock half of the genre. (Smile by Avril Lavigne)

    Alternative metal
This is a style of heavy metal that usually takes elements of heavy metal with influences from other genres (alternative rock) not normally associated with metal. (Her Name is Alice by Shinedown)

This song was made for a video game called, Alice: The Madness Returns and has no official music video.

    Hip-Hop

consisting of a  stylised rhythmic music that normally accompanies rapping and speech that is chanted by one or two people. (Berzerk by Eminem)

    Music Videos

    What is their purpose?

    • to entertain the fans of that music genre
    • promote the song and artist
    • tell a story - depending on the genre (for example: pop would be more likely to have characters in and a story/motto to the song whereas heavy metal or rock would be less likely to have a story or make any sense)
What should a music video do for the audience?
    • engage and make an impact the audience
    • entertain
What similatires are there across genres of music?
    • star the artists in the video
    • instruments featured in the video
    How do they differ?

    • a quick/fast paced song would have... quick shots and handheld shots
    • a slower song would have... fade in and outs and more wide shots

    Initial thoughts

I'm looking forward to working on my own for this task as I have loads of ideas for the music video, such as the theme, story and music itself. Even though I'll be working alone on the producing and editing, I would gather some people that don't mind being featured in my music video.
Personally I think I'll be a good director as I can take control of a group without becoming too bossy.

    Groups

I have decided to work alone for this task due to myself having lots of ideas for songs and plots to the music video. Also working alone has the benefit of not having to be dependant on my partner/group to show up for lessons and I will have no falling out over the song choice, theme and then editing when it comes to it.

    Task

The task is to create a music video as professional looking as possible using our chosen music genre. Create a promotional package for the release of a new CD to include a promotional video, a magazine advert and a digipak for the release of the CD.
